Who we are

St. Agatha has been a beacon of fellowship, hope, faith, hospitality and social justice for people of color in North Lawndale for 130 years.

The church utilizes our vacant school space as a community hub to offer educational and formational opportunities to fortify and strengthen families.
North Lawndale is home to nearly 36,000 people.
Our community is 87% African-American, 9% Latino, 3% White and 1% other.

The News School

The News School (TNS) is a journalism program which provides underserved youth and young adults (14-26) the preparation necessary to earn a college degree, gain career path skills, and succeed in the workforce and in life.
The News School
TNS focuses on all journalistic formats: news reporting, magazine and newspaper design, social media marketing, and broadcast and photojournalism. TNS is part of a community partnership to support and invest in local youth and is a community response to the challenges of crime, violence, poor quality education and lack of job opportunities in the area.

Over 40% of households in North Lawndale are living below the poverty line, with an average household income of $24,003.

North Lawndale ranks second of the 77 Chicago community areas in incidences of homicide, violent crime and aggravated battery, and first in incidences of drug abuse.

San-KO-Fa

The Reclaiming Our Story Project will train an intergenerational cohort to film a documentary of North Lawndale’s history (1940-present) through the lenses of history and faith and the life experiences of residents, their families, and their neighbors.
